Jalen Johnson Stands Out In Opener
8 months agoAtlanta Hawks forward Jalen Johnson turned heads in Wednesday's 116-110 opening loss to the Charlotte Hornets, posting a career-high 21 points (9-of-13 shooting), seven rebounds, and two assists. Johnson also provided two steals and a block. The 2020 first-round pick has fallen under the radar in recent years, but he capitalized here on a buzzy training camp and intriguing preseason that saw him average 9.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.2 steals in 19.3 minutes over five games (three starts). The Hawks have a hole to fill at power forward in John Collins' exit, and Johnson passed his first regular-season audition off the bench with flying colors. The 21-year-old's offensive repertoire remains a bit raw, but he could make a big impact on the defensive end. If he is still available in your league, Johnson should be rostered to see if he can run away with a starting job over Saddiq Bey or De'Andre Hunter.
