Jake Cronenworth Offers Two-Way Abilities
5 years agoSan Diego Padres infielder/pitcher Jake Cronenworth will work primarily as a fielder this spring training. Cronenworth, who joined the Friars along with outfielder Tommy Pham from the Tampa Bay Rays this offseason, is competing for a roster spots among a deep crew of infielders. The 26-year-old posted a .949 OPS with 10 homers and 12 steals in 406 Triple-A plate appearances in 2019 and also pitched 7 1/3 shutout frames. If Cronenworth can parlay his two-way abilities into meaningful contributions, he’ll have a clear advantage over the competition. Although an interesting player to monitor, without a clear path to the majors, Cronenworth is not a serious fantasy candidate.
