Jacob deGrom "Getting Close" To Facing Hitters
3 months agoTexas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) is "getting close" to facing hitters, according to manager Bruce Bochy. deGrom will throw around 40 pitches in a regular bullpen session on Tuesday and again on Friday. Bochy estimated deGrom will throw three live batting practice sessions before starting a minor-league rehab assignment. The 36-year-old two-time National League Cy Young winner is recovering from Tommy John surgery and probably isn't going to be ready to rejoin Texas' starting rotation until late August in a best-case scenario. The Rangers aren't going to rush the four-time All-Star along, either, especially since there's a good chance they won't even have a chance to defend their World Series title in the postseason. deGrom isn't going to have much time to contribute when he does return, and fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to immediately return to his pre-injury form.
