Jacob deGrom Contract Talks To Begin Soon?
6 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom and his representatives are disappointed that the team hasn't started contract-extension talks yet after making it sound like that was a priority in the second week of the December winter meetings. General manager Brodie Van Wagenen, deGrom's former agent, wants the star right-hander secured past the 2020 season. deGrom will turn 31 this year and has already had Tommy John surgery, but the Mets plan to sit down with him this spring to see if they can accelerate multi-year talks. deGrom will make $17 million in arbitration in 2019 and could make as much as $25 million or more next year. He went 10-9 last year with a 1.70 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 269 strikeouts in 217 innings (32 starts) while winning the National League Cy Young. Regardless of whether he signs a long-term extension, deGrom is firmly in the fantasy ace discussion.
