Jacob deGrom Awarded Cy Young In NL
6 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom was named the 2018 National League Cy Young on Wednesday, beating out Nationals ace Max Scherzer and Phillies starter Aaron Nola for the award. Due to poor run support and a bad bullpen, deGrom was only able to go 10-9 on the year, but he was so overwhelmingly dominant otherwise. The right-hander had a 1.70 ERA, which was the best in baseball by .19 points and the best in the NL by .67. His ERA was the sixth lowest among qualifying pitchers since baseball lowered the mound in 1969. deGrom's 217 innings were the second most in baseball in 2018. He made 19 starts in which he went at least five innings and allowed one earned run or none.
