J.P. Crawford To Join Seattle?
6 years agoSeattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford, often referred to as the shortstop of the future, was a late scratch at Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday and could be joining the Mariners on Friday. Second baseman Dee Gordon left the game early on Thursday after being hit on the wrist by a pitch, and he'll undergo a CT scan on Friday. With Gordon potentially missing extended time and utility infielder Dylan Moore also nursing a wrist ailment, Crawford may come up to provide infield help. The 24-year-old didn't live up to his high prospect billing in Philadelphia but is hitting .319/.420/.457 with seven doubles, three homers, 15 RBI and three steals in 31 games on the farm this year. Crawford has more experience at shortstop and Tim Beckham hasn't been the best defensively at the 6, so the two could swap positions. Crawford could carve out some mixed league relevance, mainly for his speed, if he sees extended playing time if Gordon's injury turns out to be serious.
