Indians Sign Matt Joyce
6 years agoThe Cleveland Indians signed free-agent outfielder Matt Joyce to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training on Friday. The 11-year veteran announced the move on his Twitter page. Joyce had 25 home runs and 68 RBI in 2017 but played in just 83 games for the A's last year due to back issues. The 34-year-old has experience in the corner outfield spots but is merely a left-handed platoon hitter with very little left at this stage of his career. Joyce hit only .208 with seven home runs, 53 strikeouts and a .675 OPS in 246 plate appearances in 2018, but the Indians could use his veteran presence in their outfield. Joyce should only be targeted as a dollar flier in AL-only leagues if he cracks the team's Opening Day roster.
