Indians Sign Cesar Hernandez
5 years agoThe Cleveland Indians signed second baseman Cesar Hernandez to a one-year, $6.25 million deal on Monday, according to sources familiar with the agreement. Hernandez will form a middle infield tandem with Francisco Cervelli, unless the Tribe deals the All-Star shortstop this winter. Hernandez, 29, hit .279/.333/.408 with 14 home runs, 77 runs scored, 71 RBI and nine steals in 612 at-bats for the Phillies in 2019. He's been pretty durable in his career and is mostly an on-base guy with limited power and decent speed, although he didn't get on base nearly as much last season and had single-digit steals for the first time since 2014. He's not flash but can be a nice source of steals and runs in deep mixed leagues.
