Indians Acquire Oscar Mercado
6 years agoThe Cleveland Indians acquired outfield prospect Oscar Mercado from the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday in exchange for outfielders Conner Capel and Jhon Torres, according to a source. Mercado was ranked as St. Louis' No. 10 prospect. He was hitting .285 with eight home runs, 42 RBI and 31 steals in 100 games with Triple-A Memphis. Although the Tribe just traded for Leonys Martin on Tuesday as well, Mercado has the goods to become an everyday center fielder in the big leagues very soon. Capel was Cleveland's No. 14 ranked prospect and was hitting .261 with six long balls, 44 RBI and 15 stolen bases at High A. He has an intriguing power/speed combination but probably won't see the majors for at least a few years. Torres is just 18 years old and was hitting .273 with four homers and 16 RBI in 27 games in the Rookie League.
