Ian Kinsler In Danger Of Losing Roster Spot?
6 years agoSan Diego Padres second baseman Ian Kinsler sat out on Sunday after seven straight starts at the keystone, and he went hitless with a strikeout in three plate appearances on Monday to drop his season slash line to .134/.211/.244 with two homers, two RBI and 16 strikeouts on the year. Manager Andy Green said Kinsler is seeing regular playing time in an effort "to get him going." However, a source familiar with the team's discussions about their second base crisis postulated that Kinsler's time as the regular (and possibly on the roster) could be coming down to a matter of days barring an offensive resurgence. Even though Ty France has hit well since coming up, he's been a corner infielder throughout the minors and is expected to spell Eric Hosmer at first base. If Kinsler continues to struggle, we could see Luis Urias back in the big leagues very soon. Kinsler isn't even a good option in NL-only leagues at this point.
