Ian Kinsler Announces Retirement
5 years ago14-year veteran second baseman Ian Kinsler (neck) announced his retirement from baseball on Friday. The 37-year-old said the herniated cervical disc that ended his 2019 season with the Padres in August played a factor in his decision. He'll end his career just one hit shy of 2,000, with 257 home runs, 909 RBI and 243 stolen bases in stints with the Tigers, Rangers, Red Sox, Padres and Angels. Kinsler will remain with San Diego as an adviser to baseball operations. The four-time All-Star spent eight seasons with the Rangers before a 2013 trade to Detroit. He won a World Series in 2018 with the Red Sox. In his prime, he was one of the best power/speed second baseman in the game.
