Hunter Greene Not Expected To Need Tommy John Surgery
6 years agoCincinnati Reds pitching prospect Hunter Greene (elbow), the team's No. 2 prospect, is not expected to need Tommy John surgery after spraining the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow earlier this year. Greene was the second overall pick in the 2017 draft. His arm has been feeling good and he hopes to begin throwing in December or January. He's ranked as the 22nd prospect in all of baseball and has a fastball that tops out over 100 mph. Greene allowed two earned runs or fewer in 10 of his final 11 starts in the minors this year and struck out 63 hitters in 51 1/3 innings in that span. He finished with a 4.48 ERA in 18 starts for High-A Daytona. While Greene is unlikely to pitch in the big leagues next year, he's a rising talent and should be on the radar of those in dynasty/keeper leagues.
