Hector Neris On The Hot Seat After Another Blown Save
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies closer Hector Neris blew his fifth save of the season in a 13-12 loss to the Washington Nationals on Wednesday, allowing two earned runs on three hits in his inning of work. Following the game, when asked about a potential change to the closer role, manager Joe Girardi said, "I'll take an off day and think about it. I think that's what you do. You're always re-evaluating. You take an off day and look at it." Neris recorded his 10th save of the year on June 16, but he's now blown three saves this month alone and could be demoted from the role after his performance on Wednesday. If the Phillies make a move or go to a closer-by-committee approach, Archie Bradley and Jose Alvarado could be involved alongside Neris. With a 31.0% K% and 12.3 K/9, the lefty Alvarado could be the most prudent fantasy pickup if you're searching for saves in this bullpen.
