Handful Of Teams Interested In Edwin Diaz
6 years agoWith the Seattle Mariners motivated to trade aging second baseman Robinson Cano and the five years and $120 million left on his deal, the Mariners are also exploring attaching All-Star closer Edwin Diaz to a deal, and plenty of teams are interested. The Mets, Yankees, Braves, Phillies and Red Sox are expressing the strongest interest in Diaz, though not all of them are willing to take on Cano as well. It could come down to which team is willing to take on more of Cano's unappetizing contract. Diaz led the majors with 57 saves in 2018 and had a marvelous 1.96 ERA and an average of 15.2 strikeouts per nine innings, so he'll require decent prospects in return. Diaz is young and has four years until free agency, making him extremely attractive to contenders.
