Gunnar Henderson Hitting The Bench For Game 2
4 months agoBaltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson will start Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the visiting division-rival Toronto Blue Jays on the bench. Henderson will be replaced at shortstop by Jordan Westburg, who will hit sixth against Blue Jays right-hander Bowden Francis. In the first game of the twin bill, Henderson went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk. The 23-year-old All-Star will get a break for the second contest, though. Henderson is having a brilliant 2024 campaign in just his third year in the league and is in the running for American League MVP. Coming into Monday's doubleheader, he was hitting .283/.371/.559 with a .931 OPS, 28 home runs, 64 RBI, 14 stolen bases and 82 runs scored in 104 games. He's on a modest four-game hitting streak but has hit just .250 (9-for-36) with no homers, one RBI and eight strikeouts in nine games since the All-Star break.
