Guardians Unlikely To Trade Emmanuel Clase
9 months agoCleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase is drawing trade interest from multiple teams, but a deal appears unlikely in the short term, according to sources. Cleveland has club options and control of Clase through the 2028 season, so there is no motivation for the Guardians to move one of the best closers in baseball right now. The 25-year-old right-hander led the league in saves for the second straight season in 2023 with a career-high 44 saves. That was the good news. The bad news is that he also had a career-high nine losses while also blowing a league-leading 12 saves for Cleveland. Clase allowed more contact and posted a 3.22 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and a career-low 21.2 percent strikeout rate. It's something to think about for fantasy managers, but he's going to be a top-five closer in 2024 drafts regardless.
