Guardians, Emmanuel Clase Finalize Extension
3 years agoThe Cleveland Guardians and closer Emmanuel Clase agreed to a five-year, $20 million contract extension on Saturday. The deal includes a $2 million signing bonus and two options at $10 million each for 2027 and 2028. The buyouts on both options are for $2 million, while escalators can bring the maximum on the options to $13 million. The Guardians will now attempt to lock up All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez long term before Opening Day next week. Clase will start the season as Cleveland's closer after converting 24 of his 29 save chances in 2021 while posting an excellent 1.29 ERA and 0.96 WHIP over 69 2/3 innings. The hard-throwing righty is a top-10 fantasy closer.
