Giants Will Be Strategic Buyers
6 years agoThe San Francisco Giants, who entered play with a 52-50 record on Wednesday, "will be strategic buyers, not sellers," according to a source familiar with the team's thinking. However, they probably won't be going after rental players, but it'll also be hard for them to acquire any noteworthy players with just one prospect in MLB Pipeline's top 100 (outfielder Heliot Ramos at No. 69). They also remain committed to staying under the $197 million competitive balance tax threshold. Kansas City Royals infielder Whit Merrifield would make sense for his versatility, but he's been playing very well and is under team control through 2022.
