George Springer Won't Start Rehab Assignment This Weekend
5 years agoHouston Astros outfielder George Springer (hamstring) is unlikely to start his minor league rehab assignment this weekend, according to manager A.J. Hinch. "He’s doing well, and I know he’s going to do a lot of things today on the field," Hinch said. "He’s going to take some fly balls tomorrow. But I don’t see him going out this weekend." The Astros are being cautious with their All-Star outfielder. The 29-year-old was among the league leaders in multiple categories at the time of his injury, batting .308/.389/.643 with 17 home runs, 41 runs, 43 RBI and four stolen bases in 185 at-bats. He's been out since May 24 and might need another week before he's activated, but he's getting closer, so stay patient. Josh Reddick has been slumping of late and could lose playing time when Springer returns.
