Franchy Cordero On Injured List, Luis Urias Called Up
6 years agoThe San Diego Padres placed outfielder Franchy Cordero on the 10-day disabled list on Monday with a right elbow sprain and recalled infielder Luis Urias from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move. The Padres also placed lefty reliever Aaron Loup (elbow) on the injured list and recalled reliever Brad Wieck from the minors. Urias was hitting .333/.400/.556 in four games at Triple-A and is ranked as the team's No. 3 prospect and No. 23 overall, per MLB Pipeline. Cordero had season-ending surgery on the same elbow last year, so hopefully he's not out for an extended period. His injury should open up regular playing time for Manuel Margot in center field. Urias has long-term appeal in dynasty leagues, but he should be the backup middle infielder behind Fernando Tatis Jr. and Ian Kinsler up the middle for the time being.
