Eric Lauer Named Opening Day Starter
6 years agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Eric Lauer will take the ball on Opening Day on Thursday, March 28, against the Giants. Second-year lefty Joey Lucchesi will pitch the second game. The 23-year-old Lauer will become the second youngest pitcher in Padres history to start the opener. He has 10 shutout innings across his last three spring outings and is looking to take the next step in 2019. Lauer had a 4.34 ERA and struck out 100 hitters in 112 innings over 23 starts last season. Chris Paddack and Matt Strahm are expected to follow in the rotation. Lauer is a risky choice for mixed leagues but should be considered a potential matchup play in DFS and NL-only leagues.
