Eric Ebron Seeing Snap Count Plummet
6 years agoIndianapolis Colts tight end Eric Ebron is having an excellent season in his first year with the Colts, ranking first on the team in catches (39), yards (463) and touchdowns (10). His 10 touchdowns ties him for sixth among all players in the NFL. He caught two touchdowns and ran one in during the Week 10 win over the Jaguars. Ebron has also played 360 snaps, which is 201 fewer than any of the other three players with nine or more touchdowns this year. He led the Colts tight ends in snaps each of the five games that Jack Doyle missed due to injury, averaging 53.8 snaps a game. He's averaged only 22.8 snaps with Doyle available. Doyle, Mo Alie-Cox and Ryan Hewitt are better blockers than Ebron. “I’m OK with it, because I know that when I am on the field, it’s a presence,” Ebron said. “Whether it’s me getting the ball or not, my presence is felt.” In four games with Doyle active, Ebron has caught 13 passes for 183 yards and five touchdowns. Ebron has been incredibly efficient this year, but the fact remains that he'll be very touchdown-dependent moving forward with less snaps. He's still in the TE1 conversation, but some disappointing games for his fantasy owners could be on the horizon if he doesn't find the end zone.
