Emilio Pagan Taken Out Of Closer Role
2 years agoThe Minnesota Twins are pulling right-hander Emilio Pagan from the closer's role and will have him pitch in lower-leverage situations until he gets back on track. "Yeah, he's going to pitch earlier in the games and potentially when we don't have the lead and things like that," said manager Rocco Baldelli. Pagan has nine saves this year, but he's also sporting an ugly 5.26 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. The 31-year-old had a rough month of June, blowing three saves and allowing 11 earned runs on nine hits while walking four and striking out 12 in 8 2/3 innings to lose his job temporarily. Jhoan Duran picked up a save last Sunday and is in the driver's seat to take over closing duties moving forward, so he should become a priority addition for those seeking saves.
