Dominic Smith Drives In Three In Game 1
4 years agoNew York Mets first baseman/outfielder Dominic Smith went 1-for-3 with a three-run double in the 4-2 Game 1 win over the Atlanta Braves in the first game of a doubleheader on Monday. It was a nice game for Smith, who came into Monday's action hitting just .218 (12-for-55) with four home runs and eight RBI in 67 plate appearances in the month of June. The 26-year-old was one of the best hitters in the big leagues during last year's shortened season (.316/.377/.616), but he's been pretty mediocre so far in the first half of 2021. Smith was hitting .240/.316/.365 with six home runs, 19 runs scored, 24 RBI and two stolen bases in 61 games entering Monday's doubleheader. He's starting in left field and hitting fifth against Braves right-hander Ian Anderson for Game 2 of the doubleheader.
