Diamondbacks Non-Tender Brad Boxberger, Others
6 years agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks non-tendered relief pitcher Brad Boxberger, starting pitcher Shelby Miller and infielder Chris Owings on Friday, making them all free agents. Boxberger started the year as Arizona's closer but was booted from the role and finished 3-7 with a 4.39 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 32 saves and 71 K's in 53 1/3 innings. At 31 years old next year, the soft-tossing right-hander may struggle for fantasy value. Miller is still just 28 years old but has thrown only 38 innings (eight starts) in the last two seasons due to injuries. He's off the fantasy radar until he returns and proves his health, wherever that may be. Owings hit just .206/.272/.302 with four home runs, 22 RBI and 11 steals in 106 games for the Snakes. His blend of power and speed is attractive, though, so he could carve out a role in single-universe leagues in 2019, depending on where he lands.
