DeVonta Smith 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Pushing Into WR1 Territory Following 2022 Campaign
1 year agoWhen the Philadelphia Eagles traded for Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown during the 2022 NFL Draft, DeVonta Smith's fantasy value would likely take a hit. Instead, Smith turned in a fantasy WR1 season, finishing as the WR9 in PPR formats last year. The 24-year-old wideout ended his sophomore campaign with 95 catches for 1,196 yards and seven touchdowns. He finished first on the team in receptions and second in receiving yards, touchdowns, and targets (136). The former 2021 first-round pick averaged 14.98 fantasy points per game and had nine games above 15 fantasy points last season. In Philadelphia's high-powered offense, Smith should see that same type of success in 2023. The Eagles didn't add any pass catchers in free agency or through the draft this offseason, so Smith should be locked into a similar target share this year. He had a 27% target share in 2022 -- up from his 22.1% target share in 2021. The former Alabama product is a borderline WR1 in 2023 and has a safe floor entering his third NFL season. Smith is 26th overall in the latest RotoBaller rankings, making him a solid pick at his current FFPC ADP of 30.72.
