Devin Williams Earns His First Save On Wednesday
3 years agoMilwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Devin Williams closed out the team's 4-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday to earn his first save of the year. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one walk and no hits while striking out two. The Brewers placed closer Josh Hader on the COVID-19-related injured list earlier this week. Hader tested positive for COVID-19 on August 2 and is required to be out a minimum of 10 days due to league protocols. While Hader is out, Williams should be the team's primary closer, making him a great waiver wire target for anyone in need of saves in the next week or so. Williams struggled out of the gate this year, but has since settled down. He has a 2.58 ERA and 1.28 WHIP to go along with an elite 37.8% strikeout rate on the year.
