Derek Holland Signs With Pirates
5 years agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates signed pitcher Derek Holland to a minor league deal on Friday, according to an industry source. He'll receive an invite to spring training and can opt out of his deal if he's not on the Opening Day roster. Holland made 51 relief appearances for the Cubs and Giants in 2019, posting an ugly 6.08 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 8.8 K/9. The 33-year-old southpaw also made eight starts last season and has 222 career starts, so he'll be an option as a swingman for a Bucs rotation that has some question marks at the back end. There's potential for Holland to be a deep league or DFS streamer if he wins a rotation spot in Pittsburgh, but there's not a whole lot of upside here.
