Derek Dietrich Expected To Move To First Base
6 years agoWith the trade of first baseman Justin Bour to the Phillies, Miami Marlins outfielder Derek Dietrich is expected to move to first base regularly, with Rafael Ortega and Isaac Galloway platooning in left field. Garrett Cooper should return from the disabled list in a few weeks and can also play first base. Outfielder Magneuris Sierra will see more chances to lead off. Dietrich is already eligible at first base, second, third and the outfield in most formats, so this doesn't help with added position eligibility. But he should be hitting in the middle of the order now, giving him more RBI chances. Ortega and Galloway are merely considerations in deep NL-only leagues until Cooper returns. Sierra is batting only .200 in 45 at-bats, but his speed might be useful down the stretch in deeper leagues with an everyday role at the top of the order.
