Denard Span Becomes Free Agent
6 years agoThe Seattle Mariners did not pick up outfielder Denard Span's $12 million option for the 2019 season, making him a free agent, according to a source. Span will instead be given a $4 million buyout. The 34-year-old hit .261/.341/.419 with 11 home runs, 58 RBI and nine stolen bases in 137 games with the Rays and Mariners in 2018. He's nearing the end of his career and would merely provide depth in the outfield for any team that takes a chance on him. He's unlikely to receive an everyday role wherever he lands, giving him very limited fantasy value for 2019.
