Dellin Betances To Have Season-Ending Surgery
3 years agoNew York Mets relief pitcher Dellin Betances (shoulder) will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, according to manager Luis Rojas. It comes as Betances was getting closer to a return to New York's bullpen, as he recently threw a scoreless inning in a rehab outing with Triple-A Syracuse. The hard-throwing right-hander has been a huge disappointment since coming to the Mets last year. He had a 7.71 ERA and 2.05 WHIP in 11 2/3 relief innings in 2020 and only managed to throw one inning for New York this season before going on the injured list with shoulder problems. The good news for the Mets bullpen is that Jeurys Familia is getting closer to a return to his setup role ahead of closer Edwin Diaz, who has been one of the better ninth-inning arms in the game in 2021.
