David Bednar Unavailable For Second Straight Day
2 years agoPittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar (back) is unavailable for the second straight day on Wednesday against the Washington Nationals. "He is progressing and we envision him being available in the coming days," director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said. The good news is Bednar is expected to avoid a stint on the injured list, but fantasy managers will be without the 27-year-old right-hander for at least another day. He hasn't pitched since Saturday due to a sore lower back, which has likely been the culprit for him allowing two runs in a blown save his last time out. Bednar has been great for the Bucs with 11 saves, a 1.78 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings, and he should return to ninth-inning duties in short order. If a save situation arises on Wednesday, either Wil Crowe or Chris Stratton should get a save chance.
