David Bednar Coming Off Injured List
2 years agoPittsburgh Pirates manager Derek Shelton announced that All-Star closer David Bednar (back) will be activated from the 15-day injured list on Thursday, with left-hander Eric Stout (back) going on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Bednar made three minor league rehab outings with Triple-A Indianapolis before he was activated, and he'll have time to contribute a handful of save chances before the year is up. Wil Crowe had been serving as Pittsburgh's closer with Bednar on the shelf, but expect the 27-year-old Bednar to return to his role in the ninth inning now that he's back. Before his injury, Bednar had a 2.70 ERA (2.49 FIP), a 1.07 WHIP, a career-high 17 saves and 63 strikeouts in 46 2/3 innings. Scoop him up if he's available on the waiver wire and you're still chasing saves.
