Danny Salazar Won't Be Ready For Start Of Season
6 years agoCleveland Indians starting pitcher Danny Salazar (shoulder) will not be ready to break camp with the team at the end of spring training, according to manager Terry Francona. "Danny's not going to be on pace where ... we know when he comes to spring training, he's not going to be competing to make our club," Francona said. The right-hander had season-ending shoulder surgery in early July of last year. Salazar throws hard and has proven success as a starter for the Tribe in 2015 and 2016, but he made just 19 starts in 2017 and didn't pitch at all in the big leagues last season due to his injury. Salazar still has strikeout upside and will be 29 years old entering the 2019 season, but he's an injury risk that most owners won't be willing to take.
