Cubs Sign Shane Greene To Minor-League Deal
1 year agoThe Chicago Cubs signed free-agent reliever Shane Greene to a minor-league deal on Tuesday. He will report to the team's Rookie-level club in the Arizona Complex League before eventually playing for Triple-A Iowa. Greene only threw three innings in the big leagues last year with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees, allowing two runs while walking one and fanning two. The 34-year-old right-handed veteran hasn't pitched at all in 2023 and had a 5.50 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 34 1/3 relief innings in the minors for the Yankees and Dodgers last year. Greene does have 67 career saves in nine major-league seasons, but he'll strictly give the Cubs some veteran relief depth for now.
