Craig Kimbrel Looking Good
4 years agoChicago Cubs closer Craig Kimbrel went unsigned as a free agent until June 7 last year and didn't make his debut until June 27. The hard-throwing reliever had a 1.91 ERA over 542 games in his nine seasons, but he put up a 6.53 ERA in a 23-game showing that also featured injuries. Kimbrel allowed a career-high nine home runs in just 20 2/3 frames and also gave up a career-high 9.1 hits per nine innings. Manager David Ross reported that Kimbrel "looked really good" in his bullpen session on Sunday. Kimbrel allowed a leadoff single and a two-run homer in an intrasquad Tuesday night. The once-dominant closer will now face a shortened season for the second straight year, and it's fair to wonder if he's still a high-end ninth-inning arm. Take him as a low-end No. 1 closer and hope for a rebound.
