5 years agoThe Dallas Cowboys reached a five-year deal worth $64 million with linebacker Jaylon Smith on Tuesday, according to sources. The extension includes $35.5 million guaranteed. Smith was set to become a free agent after this year. He was slated to be a top-five pick in 2016 but fell to the second round after he tore two ligaments and suffered nerve damage in his knee. Smith didn't play in his rookie year, but he's becoming a cornerstone for their defense and hasn't missed a game in his two seasons while earning 249 total tackles. He finished second on the team in tackles (150) with four sacks, five tackles for loss, 13 quarterback pressures, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 2018.
