Corey Knebel To Be Given A Break
6 years agoMilwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell said closer Corey Knebel will not be used in the ninth inning his next time out. “The next time out, we’ll give him an easier spot, for sure. But at some point, we’re going to try to work to get him back to big spots in the game," Counsell said. Knebel's disastrous blown save against the Padres did the trick. He walked three of the four hitters he faced and allowed four earned runs in the loss. Knebel's ERA has risen to 4.79 in the second half, although he's still striking out 12.62 hitters per nine innings. Counsell would prefer to have Knebel closing games, but they'll understandably give him a break for now. With Joakim Soria getting injured and allowing a grand slam Thursday, Josh Hader is probably the next best bet for saves in the short term. Jeremy Jeffress could also see some chances.
