Corey Knebel Could Be Ready By Early May
5 years agoMilwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Corey Knebel (elbow) is scheduled to throw his fourth bullpen session on Friday, in which he'll throw around 20 pitches at 80 percent intensity. Barring setbacks, Knebel could return to the team's bullpen around the first week of May. The hard-throwing right-hander is coming back from Tommy John surgery that kept him out all of last season. Knebel was an All-Star in 2017 when he had a 1.78 ERA, closed out 39 games and struck out 14.9 hitters per nine innings. He should return as a valuable member of Milwaukee's late-inning team this year, but now that Josh Hader has settled into the closer's role, Knebel's fantasy appeal has taken a big hit. He could still be useful in leagues that reward holds and for his elite strikeout rates, however.
