Corey Clement Expected To Lead Backfield On Thursday
6 years agoPhiladelphia Eagles running back Corey Clement is expected to lead the backfield on Thursday against the Giants with Jay Ajayi (knee) now out for the season. Wendell Smallwood and Josh Adams will also have roles, though. Clement is a physical runner and has improved as a pass catcher and also has return skills on special teams. Expect it to be mostly Clement and Smallwood, with Adams potentially mixing in on short-yardage situations as the bruiser. When Ajayi and Darren Sproles (hamstring) were inactive in Week 3 against the Colts, Clement played 45 snaps (16 carries, three catches on four targets), while Smallwood played 29 snaps (10 carries, three catches on four targets) and Adams had eight snaps (six carries, zero passing targets). Smallwood could see a little more work Thursday night because Clement hasn't played the last two games, but Clement has the higher ceiling over the rest of the season. Both can be employed as RB3/flex types in deeper leagues. The Eagles have gotten away from the run in recent weeks, so they'd like to be more balanced. With the Giants having a much better pass defense than run defense, both Clement and Smallwood could be busy Thursday night.
