Colten Brewer Being Stretched Out
5 years agoBoston Red Sox pitcher Colten Brewer is being stretched out in camp to potentially fill an opener role. The 27-year-old tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings against the Cardinals on Tuesday and allowed only one hit while striking out three. Manager Ron Roenicke said that Brewer could "be a big piece of that" if the team decides to lean toward an opener instead of a fifth starter to open the season due to the injury to Chris Sale (elbow). The right-hander made 58 relief appearances in 2019 and had a 4.12 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 52 K's in 54 2/3 innings. He's unlikely to have much fantasy value, even if he's in the opener role to begin the season.
