Colt McCoy Close To Return
5 years agoWashington Redskins quarterback Colt McCoy (leg), who had three offseason leg surgeries, was a full participant in practice on Wednesday for the first time since mid-August. Starter Case Keenum (foot) is currently in a walking boot and is questionable to play in Week 4 against the Giants, but head coach Jay Gruden said that rookie Dwayne Haskins is the current backup. Gruden left open the possibility that McCoy could pass Haskins up as the backup by this weekend, however. Gaskins has shown his abilities, but the Redskins seem reluctant to want to put him out there so soon in his rookie year. McCoy has been with Gruden for all six of his seasons with the team, so he'd bring more familiarity if Keenum has to sit. Keenum had five turnovers against the Bears on Monday night, but Washington still thinks he gives them the best chance to win right now. Whoever is under center against the Giants will have low-end QB2 appeal this weekend. A move to either McCoy or Haskins would be a downgrade to rookie receiver Terry McLaurin.
