Collin McHugh Could Be Ready For Start Of Season
4 years agoBoston Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom said that pitcher Collin McHugh (elbow) could be ready to play by Opening Day in late July. McHugh is already throwing off a mound and is getting close to pitching in games. The right elbow issue that he dealt with last year was still bothering him in spring training earlier this year, but the delay in the season due to COVID-19 has given the 33-year-old extra time to recover. The right-hander has seen success as a starter and reliever with the Astros. McHugh had a 1.99 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and career-high 11.7 K/9 in 58 relief appearances in 2018, but he struggled to a 4.70 ERA in 35 outings (eight starts) for the 'Stros last year. He figures to be a swingman for Boston during the shortened season, which will limit his fantasy appeal. But McHugh could be a decent spot-starter in DFS, deep mixed and AL-only leagues when the matchup warrants.
