Colin Poche Has Torn UCL
4 years agoTampa Bay Rays left-handed reliever Colin Poche (elbow) was put on the 45-day injured list on Tuesday with a torn left ulnar collateral ligament, and he'll miss the 2020 season. Tommy John surgery has been recommended, putting his 2021 season in jeopardy as well. Poche had a 4.08 FIP and struck out 72 hitters in 51 2/3 innings in his 51 appearances out of the bullpen last year. He was projected to be an important piece of Tampa's bullpen once again this year, so his loss is a blow to the relief corps. Lefties hit just .167 off of Poche last year, and righties also hit below .200 against him. If Poche winds up having Tommy John surgery, it will be the second time in his career that he had the procedure, with the first coming when he was in college in 2014. Aaron Loup and Jose Alvarado will be the two lefties the Rays will lean on even more now.
