Clay Holmes 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Reliever-Turned-Starter Worth A Look Late In Drafts
11 mins agoThe New York Mets signed pitcher Clay Holmes to a three-year, $38 million deal this offseason with plans to turn him into a starter. Although Holmes has been a reliever for most of his major league career, the Mets were open to the idea of making the right-hander a full-time starter in 2025. As a result, we don't really know what to expect from the 31-year-old this season. His last start in the majors came back in 2018, but he does have some elite stuff in his repertoire. Last season, his barrel rate against (5.6%), hard-hit rate (36.5%), and whiff rate (30.2%) all ranked extremely well. As a result, Holmes might be worth a look late in fantasy drafts. We have also seen plenty of relievers-turned-starters like Garrett Crochet, Reynaldo Lopez, and Michael King be successful in their first year in that new role. While the Mets pitcher will likely not be as dominant as those pitchers in his first season as a starter, he does have some appeal in the later rounds.
