Chris Paddack Wows In Spring Debut
6 years agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Chris Paddack fanned four batters in two innings in his spring training debut Tuesday. Paddack cruised through the start, allowing a hit, walk and unearned run. After missing all of 2017 to Tommy John surgery, the 23-year-old amassed a 2.10 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 35 percent strikeout rate across 90 innings of Class A Advanced and Double-A ball in 2018. Coming off major surgery, durability and workload will be a concern for Paddack, but baseball’s No. 34 prospect appears a legitimate contender to make the team. With at least three starting slots available, Paddack has a chance to crack the rotation. Due to his uncertain roster outlook, Paddack’s ADP is currently north of 400, but he could emerge on sleeper radars if the strong performance continues.
