Chris Bassitt Undergoes Successful Surgery
3 years agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher Chris Bassitt (face) underwent successful facial surgery on Tuesday in Chicago. Doctors "stabilized and plated the tripod fracture... and debrided other small fractured bones." The right-hander is stable and resting comfortably and will return to the Bay Area later this week. Bassitt took a line drive off his face last Tuesday and is expected to need around six weeks of recovery time, so there's a very good chance that he won't pitch again in 2021. It's unfortunate for fantasy managers, as the first-time All-Star was having an excellent season with a 12-4 record, 3.22 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 154 strikeouts and just 35 walks in 151 innings over 25 starts. The good news is that Bassitt should be just fine in the long run after the scary incident.
