Chris Bassitt To Decline His Mutual Option
2 years agoNew York Mets right-hander Chris Bassitt will decline his $19 million mutual option for the 2023 season, as has been long suspected. Bassitt will be in for a multi-year deal on the open market at that rate or likely more. Even though the 33-year-old didn't do well in his start in the Wild-Card Series against the San Diego Padres, he was solid in his first and perhaps only season in the Big Apple. Bassitt finished his 2022 regular season by going 15-9 with a 3.42 ERA (3.66 FIP), a 1.14 WHIP, a career-high 167 strikeouts and 49 walks in 181 2/3 innings over 30 starts. He made his first All-Star team with the Oakland Athletics in 2021 and posted a solid 22.4 percent strikeout rate this year with the Mets.
