Chris Archer, Joe Musgrove Expected To Be Ready
6 years agoPittsburgh Pirates starting pitchers Chris Archer and Joe Musgrove are "on target to begin the season healthy" after they both underwent core/abdominal surgery early in the offseason, according to director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk. Archer threw live batting practice on Wednesday, while Musgrove threw a bullpen. Musgrove is scheduled to pitch in the team's third game of the season against the Reds, while Archer is tabbed for the home opener on April 1. Archer was a disappointment in 2018 but did strike out 10.3 hitters per nine innings in 10 starts after being traded from the Rays. He should be able to bounce back in the National League Central over a full season and makes for a nice value play in the late middle rounds. Musgrove made just 19 starts last year but also has some potential in the late rounds of deep mixed affairs.
