Charlie Blackmon Could Be Moved To Corner Outfield Spot
6 years agoColorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon could be moved to a corner outfield spot in 2019 as the team toys with the idea of positional adjustments. Blackmon is open to a move that would likely mean a mix of David Dahl and Ian Desmond in center field. Blackmon hasn't played any position other than center field since 2015, when he played 14 games in left and seven in right. He ranked poorly in most advanced defensive metrics in center field in 2018, so it might make sense to move him to a corner outfield spot. His defensive runs saved of minus-28 was the worst among 57 qualified outfielders, according to FanGraphs. Blackmon's career year came in 2017, and he hit .291/.358/.502 with 29 home runs, 70 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 2018. He's had at least 29 homers and 70 RBI in the last three seasons, but he's running a lot less after he stole a career-high 43 bags in 2015. He's still plenty useful hitting in the thin air of Colorado and should be considered a top-10 fantasy outfielder.
